TATTOO AFTERCARE
Proper aftercare helps your tattoo heal safely and maintain its appearance. Follow these instructions throughout the healing process.
Immediate Care
Leave your bandage on for the time instructed by your artist. Traditional wraps and adhesive second-skin bandages require different care. Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
Cleaning Your Tattoo
Gently wash twice daily with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Use clean hands, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not scrub.
Moisturizing
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer to clean, dry skin. Avoid excessive application. Wear loose, clean clothing to prevent irritation.
During Healing
Mild redness, itching, flaking, and peeling are normal. Never scratch, pick, or peel your tattoo. Allow the skin to heal naturally.
What to Avoid
Avoid swimming, hot tubs, soaking, direct sunlight, and excessive friction until fully healed. Showering is fine. Avoid prolonged exposure to water.
Warning Signs
Seek prompt medical attention for spreading redness, worsening pain or swelling, pus, fever, chills, or red streaks. Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing or facial swelling.
Long-Term Care
Surface healing typically takes 2–4 weeks; deeper healing may take longer. Once healed, moisturize regularly and use SPF 30+ sunscreen to protect your tattoo.
